Misc: My Story
Ever since I can remember I played basketball. I have always been around it, my grandpa was a coach, and my mom was really good at basketball. I was destined to be a good basketball player because I put so much time and effort into the sport. When I was in fifth grade I started going to the high school open gyms; earlier than most of the high school students. I even got to play in some of their tournaments. When I was not playing at open gyms, I was working with my grandpa because I had big dreams for this sport. When I hit seventh grade I was excited to not only make the team, but be a starter. But I ended up not enjoying the game as much as I thought because of my coach. She was bad to me throughout junior high, because she had her favorites, and I was not one. I have never been one to quit so I sucked it up, and kept on playing and working hard to prove her wrong. Then when I hit high school I thought things would change I was the most dedicated on the team, and worked off season too. I ended up starting JV as a freshman, but that was soon about to change. things happened, and I started to be picked on again. I still was not going to quit, but I just did not think it was fun anymore. I went to talk to the coach about moving me to just be on the freshman because it was pointless to keep me on JV if I was not going to play. She thought that I was quitting, and said somethings that made me very upset. I reassured her I was not quitting, but when I told my family what happened they all said I need to quit, even my grandpa who was a coach and did not believe in quitting. So I quit my freshman year, and 2 upperclassman quit after me. It was the hard decision I have ever done. I thought maybe later I would regret it, but I do not. I play CYO basketball just because I could not stay off the court. Through this experience I changed, and became a stronger girl. I know that in the end it was worth it.

I think it is really awesome that you were able to find a hobby so early in life that you feel really passionate about. Like you, I found out what my niche was pretty early, as well. Ever since I was a little kid, I had always had an infatuation with music. Basically, anything about music such as the rhythm, the melody, and even music sheets, always had my attention. My mom always makes the joke that, when I was born, I entered this world humming. Although this is probably not true at all, I had always remembered how I had loved music throughout my whole entire life. When I was around 4 years old, I would always be tapping on something, much like a drum. I was always, for some reason, trying to make new rhythms and beats even from an early age. I think my teachers got really frustrated from that ha-ha. Then, in fifth grade, I joined my school’s marching and concert band. I really enjoyed it and I started out playing the trumpet, and then moved to the baritone, then euphonium, then finally the tuba. Even outside of school, I taught myself to play the piano, guitar, and even a little bit of the clarinet. Unfortunately, because I am a Post-Secondary student, I had to quit the high school marching band because I spend all of my time in Lima now. I was distraught because I was basically a shoe-in for the music scholarship and the leader scholarship and various other awards. Although I miss band ever so badly, I am really happy I have the chance to get a head start on college though. I hope you keep up with your passion, because I know I am!
