Career

When I was a sophomore in high school I knew I wanted to be an Occupational Therapist. I switched a lot from Physical Therapy Speech Therapy, and Occupational Therapy, but after a lot of researched I decide on Occupational Therapy. I am only a senior in high school this year so I decide I need to have a back up plan. I have been looking, and in the past year my little brother was diagnosed with diabetes. It was hard for my family, so I wondered if there is a career that might involve helping kids and families that deal with this. So I did some research and found that there is a Diabetic Educator. It sounds like it would be a good job for me because I want to stay in the medical field. The process though is a little long and a hard way. First you have becoming something like a nurse, than you have to work specifically under diabetes patients, and then you have to pass a test to get your license. This is sounds so hard, but in my eyes it would be worth it to help a family that are going through what my family went through. I am keeping it as my back up plan though because after listing the pros and cons of both I thought that Occupational Therapy would fit me a little better. And my little brother has some interest in that career because he wants to help kids like they helped him, but he has a long way to go with that since he is only seven.

  1. Hey! I am really sorry to hear about your brother being diagnosed with diabetes at such a young age. My grandpa got diagnosed with it not too long ago and it was really weird how much he had to change just maintain a healthy lifestyle, it was like things he had eaten for so many years he had to just quit eating, that would be really hard. But I am really excited for you with your career choice because it is a great field to go into because you will always be needed. I am going for Physical Therapy Assistant and I have never been so excited about something in my life. In the beginning I wanted to be a teacher, then a physical therapist, then an ultrasound technician, and then back to physical therapy and that is where I am staying. I realized this was what I wanted to do when I hurt my back and had to go through physical therapy. I loved going there because the environment was so friendly and it was people coming in to get help! What better way to live your life; helping people and being happy and friendly and loving the people you work with. Obviously I might not love all the people I work with but I am going to be so happy to help people that are having trouble and going through a lot of pain, it seriously has to be the best feeling in the world! I cannot wait to be done with college and experience it!
