Read Response 5

I really enjoyed this reading. Not only because it was easy to follow, but it had a lot of facts that seemed to make a lot of sense to me. I am a big magazine reader, but I tending to look over the little things that caught my eye. For example, if I am looking at two magazines  and one says "5 new ways to do your hair" and the other says "7 new ways to do your hair" I will most likely pick up the seven one because it has more. I found it so interesting that I looked over something that changed what magazine I get. Also I felt this was a well written. I think that the way the author used a lot of different examples to prove her point made her paper strong. To me the examples made it like she was not making it all opinion based, but on actually facts. I always knew that they need to test the cover in focus groups because even if we do not like to admit it when do judge things by there covers. I know for a fact that if some magazine has a attractive looking person on it I will be more likely to buy it then something that may contain better information, but has a less attractive person on the cover. However I did not know, that using printing subscriptions in other magazines is cheaper than doing direct campaigning in the mail. I really enjoyed this reading and I learned a little more about magazines that I did not know.

  1. I completely agree with you. I'm a big magazine reader and I get a lot of them in the mail because I read them so much ha! I'm always looking for new fashion tips or beauty tips that I can do, so if I see a magazine at the store that says "100 beauty tips" I'm pretty bound to buy it or stand in the isle for half an hour reading it. I think she gave a lot of good examples that helped make her paper credible and strong. She gave a lot of points that I never truly thought about. I never knew that numbers had such a BIG impact on the way people buy them. The very first thing I look at is the person on the cover. It's sometimes bad how magazines try to portray this perfect looking girl on the cover of magazines making other girls want to have what she has or look how she looks. That can lead to a lot of self esteem issues and things of that nature. So, magazines can have their negative effect on people just to get people to buy their product. I know for a long time I was buying Seventeen magazines up the wazoo because I wanted to look like the girls in the magazines looked. In reality, all of the magazines are photoshopped, edited, and touched up so much that NOBODY truly looks perfect or how they look on the covers. I really enjoyed reading this article too.
